This post is a bit out of the ordinary in that it’s not exactly about Alex Lambert, rather about someone who did right by him… but anyone who does right by Alex is worth a mention in our books – especially as the so-called news story about Alex’s tweets goes international, with the facts and the tweets themselves getting ever more distorted with each repetition.
In the last few days, we’ve gotten a deluge of e-mails from journalists trying to get in touch with Alex – all but one of whom wrote their articles first, and e-mailed later. The sole exception was Robert Philpot, a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, whose articles on Alex I first came across while looking for references for the Alex Lambert Wikipedia entry. This guy has legitimately been following Alex from the very beginning, and sent us a truly nice e-mail explaining that he hadn’t yet written about the tweets because he wasn’t sure this wasn’t an overreaction/hoax, and also out of sensitivity to Alex’s parents.
Now we didn’t answer any of the other journalists, because as Alex’s fansite run by his fans it’s not our place. But I did answer Robert just to say thanks personally, because I was touched by his integrity.
Today, I discovered that Robert has finally written his piece on Alex’s tweets, and you should all go read it, because it’s what journalism is supposed to be about – based on the facts, and not wild speculation. Robert may be regretting not writing sooner and capitalizing on the topic’s viral status, but I hope he gets some comfort from knowing that us Alex fans appreciate and respect him for it.
You can read the article here.
I’d also like to mention Paul J. Warner, who wrote a very nice blog post doing his part to get Alex more followers, as well as Tiffany and Harrison Painter, who offered Harrison’s expertise in helping Alex set up his own blog.
Also not to be forgotten is model, star of all four Resident Evil films and singer Milla Jovovich, along with her bandmate Chris Brenner, who tweeted Alex offering their assistance (what is it about actresses and Alex? First Demi, now Milla!). In fact, Chris Brenner’s tweet about Alex, in which he says “I saw @TrueAlexLambert on Idol. His voice & talent are just undeniable and he really struck me as genuine, good kid.”, has been a Top Tweet since yesterday.
And finally, to all the other people who e-mailed us hoping to get in touch with Alex, or filled our Twitter timelines with positive tweets, thank you. We’re sure that Alex appreciates it just as much as we are heartened by your decency.
