I think most of us Alex snaf have accepted the demise of “If I Can Dream” and – especially with Alex’s recent live stream Stickam sessions – barely miss it (correct us if we’re wrong). However, it seems there are still fans of the show that care; as we move further into 2011 – the year “If I Can Dream” was supposed to return for its second season – more and more people are searching the web asking, will it be back?
So, in the absence of any official announcements or forthcoming news from Simon Fuller and co., allow us to digress from Alex-related topics for a minute to ponder the show’s fate. Do we think it will be back? The answer is a definitive “No”.
Don’t believe us? Read on…
Even disregarding the hasty, unexpected way the “first season” ended, the writing on the wall is clear… in its absence. That’s right, the notice posted on the live stream website (ificandream.com) promising the return of “If I Can Dream” Season 2 in 2011 – the last hope of dedicated Dream fans – has been removed. Instead, visitors are greeted by an empty, white page.
But let’s say, for the sake of argument, that “If I Can Dream” does return (in some shape or form) for a second season… it will not be in the same house (the property has been put back on the market), and it will certainly not feature the same cast.
How can we be so sure? Well, Kara has tweeted “You should just know that I can’t explain anything about the state of If I Can Dream because I’m out of the loop. If and when it starts again, it won’t be with us. That’s showbiz. Plus, it takes a while to pitch shows to TV. So who knows?” And Alex, in response to people asking when the show will be back, has tweeted a couple of times that it’s over and done with.
If you’re wondering what the dreamers are up to these days, here’s what we know: Ben Elliott and Kara Killmer are still based in LA, still going to auditions, and recently filmed a short film teaser together. Kara is additionally acting in the Revolve Tour, a show for middle and high school girls that plays at various locations across the US. Giglianne Braga is also in LA doing her best to pursue her dream of modeling, and Justin Gaston (who in any case had abandoned ship by the time they pulled the plug) got a short haircut, is apparently back in LA after stints in Nashville and Boston (where he self-produced an EP) and is modeling and dating actress Melissa Ordway. As for Alex, most of his days are spent in the studio working towards his album, with show dates planned in the LA area in the coming months (and yes, he’s finally found a safe place to live).
So there you have it. The cast has moved on, and now it’s time for you to move on too. We know, we know… hope dies last. But take our word for it – this one’s not even worth dreaming about.
