After much discussion (see comments below), the plans for Alex’s birthday video have taken shape! Here are the answers to some FAQ:
WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT?
Alex Lambert will be turning 20 on December 10th… a pretty big deal, since he’ll officially be out of his teens, right? Since everyone wanted to do something special for his birthday, two of Alex’s biggest fans, Lauren and Shelby, came up with an idea: to collect a bunch of multimedia submissions and edit them together into one awesome birthday video!
WHAT’S THE DEADLINE?
Shelby will need time to assemble and edit the video (between her busy school schedule), so the deadline is strictly NOVEMBER 22nd – one month from today. But don’t be slackers and leave it to the last minute! Get your submissions in early!
WHAT SHOULD I SEND?
Your contribution can include one or more of the following:
- A birthday clip: a short video clip in which you wish Alex a Happy Birthday… like what you’d write in a birthday card.
- A mahalo clip: since Alex always ended his vlogs with “mahalo” (“thank you” in Hawaiian), a short video clip in which you say “mahalo” to Alex, for whatever you feel thankful to him for.
- A clip of you singing “I Didn’t Know”: for the braver souls out there, sing a cover of Alex’s “I Didn’t Know” (to be assembled into a montage).
- Any form of fan art: collages, photographs, arts and crafts, drawings/doodles/paintings, digital art, etc.
- A short written message: a few lines with your special message.
HOW LONG/WHAT SIZE SHOULD THE VIDEO CLIPS BE?
Each clip should be just a few seconds long – say Happy Birthday or Mahalo and a few words as your personal brief message. Save your videos in a common format appropriate for Internet streaming (e.g.: .mp4, .avi, .mov). Since you’ll be sending the files by e-mail, keep each clip under 10 MB (you can send a maximum of 10 MB/email to Yahoo, though your own e-mail provider may limit you even more). You may need to play with various settings to get the video down to 10 MB, depending on what software/device you’re using. A good bet for the less technologically savvy is to use your cell phone to record your video, ’cause this will keep the file size down (though the quality won’t be great). Don’t hesitate to ask us for help if you need it!
WHERE SHOULD I SEND WHAT I MAKE?
Send your videos, fan art, photos or messages to email@example.com.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
For starters, actually SEND something, and don’t just say you will, then forget about it! And spread the word! Alex’s brother Trevor and former band member Alex Treharne have already said they’re in – so there’s NO EXCUSE for the rest of you!!!
I’M STILL CONFUSED!
luvalexlambert1 summed it up nicely in the comments:
“I guess we are making this harder than it really is. from my understanding, we just send at least one short video clip to firstname.lastname@example.org and it will get put into a video of a mix/collage of many clips and pics from different fans. im probably just gonna say mahalo with my alex lambert hat, hoodie, and tshirt.
*im just being creative and having fun with it! my favorite singer on earth is gonna see this so for me, it has to be extra special :silly: ”

Most importantly, HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!
