Well, we have good news and bad… bad first? Sounds like Alex Lambert’s band, The Lights, is no more.

We got to know and love them on “If I Can Dream”, but according to Alex’s tweets last night, The Lights, comprising members Samuel Larsen, Oliver Lee, and Freddy and George Hill, “were good but they got their own things goin on”.

But don’t despair! Are you ready for the good news??? It’s REALLY good! Here’s what else he tweeted:

“I’m gettin my band together right now so I’m gonna be playin shows around LA within a month!!! I can’t wait… So if yer an LA native….:)”

Alex went on to explain that this new band is made up of pro musicians, and includes an electric violinist named “Jay”… who is an animal. AND he mentioned that he’s got all new songs!

We are intrigued…  pro band, accompanied by the electric violin, and new songs… does Alex have a new sound?

SO, you lucky LAers… get ready to attend some great shows in the very near future!! (And of course, please bring along your video cameras for those of us not fortunate enough to live in LA!)

  1. Oh good, thanks for this topic, because I was hoping we could discuss this! I think this is wonderful news, (although bittersweet about the Lights), because it tells me that things are looking up for Alex. From my limited knowledge following past Idols, a record label usually gets involved in forming a backing band for a musician. I mean, Alex certainly doesn’t have the financial means to pay musicians–they’ll probably get their own contract of some sort. I’m pretty sure RCA got Daughtry’s band assembled, and David Cook had to fight the label to get a few of his old bandmates included in his current line-up. I know RCA hooked up Cook with a bass player and drummer from their arsenal of industry contacts.

Now I don’t want to be jumping to conclusions, just to have them dashed, but you gotta agree that this is a really interesting development! I think Alex loves being “random”, so I’m not sure if I believe him when he says he’s got an electric violinist. I mean, I can think of a dozen instruments that would have more merit in his band…lol. Also, he mentioned something about a CD of covers. What’s that all about? I think he was just thinking out loud on twitter last night. But I certainly love his enthusiasm.

Last night’s twitter party was one of his best yet. So much joy and excitement for everyone. Yes I will miss the Lights, but I know that Alex will flourish even more with already established professionals. I too thought that maybe he was joking at first about the Jay, the electric violinist, but maybe not. I found this youtube video of Airplanes with an electric violin. Sounds pretty hot!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5Gqq7pB1EY
Who knows, but we’ll find out one day soon!
I think I’m planning a trip to LA in the spring. Who’s with me?? :w00t:

@Diane I loved your reasoning behind the formation of his new band. Fingers crossed.:)

Aren’t there strings in the I Didn’t Know video. Wouldn’t they need an electric violin to duplicate that sound on stage. Just thinking out loud.

And, oh yes, LA in the Spring, sounds fabuous!

  4. Glad Alex is doing better now. He must have been having a very down time when he posted what he posted. Life can be hard. What does not not do you in in life makes you stronger. Here’s to sunshine days ahead for Alex and spot light nights.

Yes Cathy there are “beautiful” strings in “I Didn’t Know”. Welcome to the band Jay. Can’t wait to hear you play!

  6. @Diane – I agree that getting a professional band is a very good sign. Like you said, pros don’t work for free and SOMEONE has to be paying them.

It also sounds like Alex is getting ready to promote himself if he’s playing all new songs.

I’m am definitely going on that trip to LA in the spring! I can hardly wait. Don’t you dare make a plan without me! hehehe.

BTW: Electric violin has me excited! I can’t fully imagine what it will sound like with Alex’s songs (at least what we’ve heard so far), but I gotta tell ya, it could really be amazing!

I think I have some kind of jinx on me. Alex’s twitter party last night was one of the best ever and, of course, Twitter went wonky on me and I gave up before he even arrived. This shit happens to me all the time. Why God, Why? Anyway, it’s all good news, I’m glad y’all had a good time, and I’m completely excited about seeing Alex live in LA in the spring!

  8. Not happy to hear about no more Lights. I really liked Sam, Oliver, Alex T, and the Twins. They posess a mountain of personality and talent. I am happy that Alex is moving on and I hope he is not making a mistake.

Maybe the Lights will survive as a band. If not, I am sure they will be successful. I will look for any news on them as well as on Alex.

  9. @richiej: The Lights just didn’t have enough experience. Sam and the Twins are so young and so green. It wouldn’t have worked. Especially if there is a label involved.

Aw richiej, I wouldn’t be surprised if you hear from them again. Maybe not as the lights. They are all very talented musicians. They’re all in school working on their music, and they’re all still buddys. I think they were too busy with their own projects to give Alex the time that he needed.

I loved the Lights and although they are super-talented & amazing, they ARE very young and involved in other things, especially school. So, I think this is a GREAT move for Alex!! Playing with pros who have more experience, and probably have more time to dedicate to the band, that’s a huge deal! I can’t wait to go to his show one day! Gonna be awesome! :w00t:

  12. Lauren: I think I’m planning a trip to LA in the spring. Who’s with me??

    LOL the 11th – 17th right???

Any hoo, I am so glad Alex, tweeted last night, he needed to breath some new life into us….I was gettin :cwy: …..I agree about the lights, they are so young and are in school…there is no doubt they are going to be successful in their own right, how could they not with those looks, and that talent. I wish them loads of luck   Oh I cant wait to see what kind of band he get together…excitin’ stuff!!! :w00t:

  13. Oh man! I am on the other side of the U.S.! I so want to see Alex perform…

One day I WILL. He’s gonna do so great.

  14. Just watched Idol tonight. Did Alex watch Idol tonight? I wonder. The guy who was engaged and had his girl friend in the accident tore me up totally. When you can get up and go out and live your life you can sometimes forget how blessed you are. What a gift we are given when we have our five senses and can walk and enjoy our many gifts in life each day.

  15. I wonder if Alex will be on camera on Idol this year? Hope so. So far the one to win it this year would be Scott Dangerfield. Found his my space site and listened to some of his music. He is the one to take it I think this year. Wish they would have Alex singing on Idol. That would totally rock.

  16. Ooh I’m liking Dangerfield. Even his name is exciting! And he brings some blue-eyed soul which Alex brought to us last year.

About the demise of the Lights… :cwy: The boys had character. And I’m missing Sam’s enthusiasm and excessive jewellery. Lol.

  17. no more The Lights????? Incredibly talented and total jail baits… They will not have a hard time being successful if they can keep a level head. I know theyre super green so I never thought theyd actually stay together. ANyhow, they all had a great summer and made great friends so nothings lost. The twins are busy with school (so cute, I wish im 17 again) and Sam has frontman aspirations too. Oliver, I think he’s still in school right??

Anyway, I’m glad Alex is getting support form Pros to really tighten his sound. Maybe he is getting ready to promote himself. Performing is the weakest tool in Alexs arsenal so he should play as many live shows as possible. HOpe he’ll venture out of LA too… oh wishful thinking

  18. Reyne: Ooh I’m liking Dangerfield. Even his name is exciting! And he brings some blue-eyed soul which Alex brought to us last year.

Me too! I LOVE cute nerds! I was like “Man, I hope he can sing.” And he CAN! I think I might have a favorite this year. Let’s hope he’s not a douchebag.

  19. Everyone here so far seems to agree with me on Scott Dangerfield. He is the one I think to win it. I have not even seen all of the talent this yr.. Who cares, he has the it factor and can sing. Wish they would have Alex singing on Idol this year, that would rock out. Happy about the new band for Alex. Go Alex, love the good news. Scott has some very good music of his on his my space site.

Carol Ann – I’m not completely convinced. I went to his myspace site and I wasn’t really impressed. His music seemed very pop and auto-tuned. I will admit that he sounded good on Idol last night. Tell me if I’m not reading it right, but I did notice that he hadn’t logged into his Myspace page since April 2009. Maybe he’s changed his style in the last year and a half. I tried to find him on YouTube…nothin’. I’m gonna wait and see. No where near as good as Alex, tho.

Snuffles, I have a thing for cute NERDs too. The bit with the lipstick was a riot. We’ll see.

  21. No offense, but I was more impressed with Scott’s audition than his Myspace page. After listening to his songs at that site, Scott isn’t even in the same league as Alex vocally. I was appalled at the amount of auto-tune that was used on the tracks and there wasn’t anything the least bit distinctive about his voice. I guess the old saying stands true- different strokes for different folks. Or maybe I couldn’t hear his voice through all of the auto-tune?
That’s all I will say about that. Back to supporting Alex at his fan site.

    #TEAMALEXLAMBERTFOREVER

  22. @Cathy – I checked it out too. I’m gonna guess those songs are over 2 years old. He can sing better than that. I WILL say, he can’t write songs for shit though.

ETA: You know, it’s OK to like other artists – even the ones on Idol.

  23. ETA: I have no problem liking other artists because I DO. Maybe it’s me, but it seems strange to be showing so much attention to another artist on Alex’s fan site. That’s all.

  24. (assuming Alex wasn’t just being random) I found ONE professional electric violin-playin’ “Jay” in LA: Jay Golden. Looks like he’s played in bands called Vibrasol, Phantom Down, Needlemouth, God’s Weapon, etc. If this is the “jay” then Alex still has his fetish for a hair band!
    http://www.myspace.com/phantomdown

Sad question: if Alex is going all “pro” with the band, does that mean Sebastian is out too?

I DID say that I was going to wait and see. I was not impressed with his Myspace page. I acknowledged that they were old songs. Just don’t think we saw enuf of him on Idol. He’s mighty cute (in that nerdy way that we love). However, I am completely, totally, positively convinced that I LOVE Alex Lambert. So I really do just want to wait and see with this Scott guy and anyone else that Idol puts up. Who knows. No offense tho.

Lola – don’t think Alex was being random. Your guy looks a lot like this guy… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmsr098Ta7A via @youtube (wait a sec. He comes in toward the end). This band is managed by Olympia (Alex’s piano teacher). so we think that is the connection. If this is all the same guy. He’s awesome. I can’t wait to see Alex with his new band IN PERSON.

  27. Call me curious, I just checked out the singer called Amos Lee. His song ie “In The Arms Of A Woman” is now a fave of mine. I watched the video made of this song. This guy can singggg and I had never even heard of him before Scott Dangerfield sang a song by him. One gift in life seems to connect to another gift in life. I love good singers. They are a gift to us all on earth.

I can’t get that link to work. A little help…somebody, please.

Here’s one of the photos from his MySpace http://www.myspace.com/phantomdown/photos/4149484#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A4149484%7D

Definitely looks like the same Jay. Great work Lola and Cathy. I think we’ve found him. Again exciting developments ahead!

@Lola To my knowledge it’s a go for Sebastian. He’s going to be singing harmonies, so he might be a backing vocalist.

  29. Lauren:

Yay, Sebastian. Singing with the pros!

ps, Lauren thanks for that help with the link. (pss. Lauren actually found that clip, I was just the first one to bring it over here. Hey gotta give credit where credit is due. )

Actually I never heard of Amos Lee until Alex sang his “Night Train” towards the end of IICD. Y’all know this one. Linda does, ha ha.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxtXAU3yu7s
I specifically remember how perfectly the song fit in Alex’s register and when he would sing “Night Train”, I imagined that he could even cross over into country music, although I know it’s not his vibe. Just another example of why I love Alex’s voice. It has no limits.

@Cathy No credit for me, please. :getlost:

I don’t care what genre anything is…I loved Alex’s rendition of Night Train. whoa, goosebumps just thinking about it.

I’m sorry, did I stumble into the Scott Dangerfield fan site by mistake. Excuse me folks. My bad. haha j/k, Carol Ann.

  33. Man, it’s always amazing to see how fast you guys track people down. Super sleuths I tell ya!!!

  34. I don’t want to hear another word about Scott Dangerfield on this site. This is THE ALEX LAMBERT FANSITE. If you want to talk about what a great singer he is, please go find his fansite or go to his MySpace page or whatever. I have no right to issue directives and I know that, but I don’t want to have to read through a bunch of crap about somebody else when I come here. This is Alex’s site after all. Let’s keep it that way.

My darling super sleuths who tracked down Jay, what can I say? The Lambert Detective Agency did it again! That electric violin is going to add a whole new dimension to Alex’s sound. I, for one, am very excited about it!

I wasn’t really expecting The Lights to stay together. It’s always going to be Alex Lambert and…Doesn’t mean I don’t love them because I do. They’re all so talented, charming, and good looking that I have no worries about them.

It’s onward and upward for Alex. Big things, big things…

  35. @Lauren,@Janet,

  36. This just has to be the year for Alex…please let Alex come to Boston, please God, please God!

I WILL see Alex perform. I am speaking my dream into existence.

I agree Lauren and Janet. Let’s celebrate Alex here! I actually don’t even care about Idol anymore because of what happened with Alex. I boycotted since that episode and have ever since. I will watch Idol again the day that they feature Alex Lambert, and only then.

    I love Alex Lambert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. @Janet – you’re absolutely right! If you want to discuss this year’s Idols go on over to Mj’s or, my suggestion, Rickey.org. There are always plenty of videos and comments being posted there about the current season. That’s what they do – they are AI bloggers. Mahalo!

  38. Alex will have a bigger Idol family now with this season. Just one big extended Idol family. Once a Idol always a Idol. So glad you are all enjoying the talent this year. Wonder who Alex likes so far?

  39. Carol Ann: Alex will have a bigger Idol family now with this season. Just one big extended Idol family. Once a Idol always a Idol. So glad you are all enjoying the talent this year. Wonder who Alex likes so far?

I don’t really think Alex watches Idol. I think he’s kinda focused on moving onward & upward in his own career.
Personally, I’ve been watching out of curiosity, but I’m not really into Idol this year. :pinch:

So right, Katherine. Idol is so in Alex’s rear view mirror. bye, bye Idol.

    Agreed!

Do you think there’s an Idol Convention every year where they all get together and relive the good ole days on Idol?

We’re starting to plan a trip to LA in the spring. Alex will be playing with his band and we’ve just got to go. Keep dreaming your dream into existence ’cause we’re going!

  44. Alex watching Idol??? I don’t think so. He’s not going waste time on that when he can spend it wisely by working on his music and progressing his career. That’s just the way he operates.

    #TEAMALEXLAMBERTFOREVER

    Ohmira..I love your passion!!

  45. So glad Idol,19E has had Alex’s back and have been teaching him about the record industry out in LA for the past yr.. Other wise as Alex has said he would be back in his home town trying to figure out how to get to where he needs to be in his life. What a blessing they have been to Alex. Just when it looked dark for Alex we hear he now has a new great band to work with also and some gigs coming up soon. So happy for Alex. So glad he has all of his Idol friends also. Glad that Alex’s mom got him to try out. Still like Scott Dangerfield the best from Idol this yr.. Time will tell who makes it to the top 10. The press has been huge on Dangerfield and his great voice so far. Wishing Alex a great 2011. Keep thinking those happy thoughts.

  46. ohmira: This just has to be the year for Alex…I agree Lauren and Janet.Let’s celebrate Alex here!I actually don’t even care about Idol anymore because of what happened with Alex.I boycotted since that episode and have ever since.I will watch Idol again the day that they feature Alex Lambert, and only then.I love Alex Lambert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting what I was thinking, ohmira. I haven’t felt the same about Idol since that fateful night when Alex got the boot last year. I didn’t watch the remainder of last year, and I have little interest for this season. I’m just tired the show–plain and simple. Until the night Alex performs, OR if they use his song on the show; then I’ll be watching and grinning like a loon.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, I’m gonna wait until Alex is a signed recording artist with hundreds of thousands of CDs sold before I, personally, move on to the next Idol. This takes way too much of my energy and focus as it is…

  47. I watched Scott on replay, and he’s very good , but not in Alex’s league, and don’t assume he’s makin’ the top 20
